Saskatoon Blades: A Prairie Hockey Tradition

For more than half a century, the Saskatoon Blades have been one of the most recognizable teams in Canadian junior hockey. Based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the club competes in the Western Hockey League (WHL), one of the top developmental leagues for young players aspiring to reach the NHL.

Founded in 1964, the Blades quickly became a cornerstone of junior hockey in the Canadian prairies. Known for their strong community support and competitive teams, the Blades have produced numerous NHL players over the years. Home games at SaskTel Centre have long been a gathering place for hockey fans across the region, creating one of the most passionate atmospheres in junior hockey.

While the Blades have captured multiple division titles and enjoyed many strong seasons, the team has often been remembered for its consistent competitiveness and player development. Many future professional stars sharpened their skills in Saskatoon before moving on to the NHL and other professional leagues.

Today, the Saskatoon Blades remain a proud and enduring part of Saskatchewan’s sports culture. With decades of history, loyal fans, and a tradition of developing top young talent, the Blades continue to be one of the WHL’s most respected franchises.
